This initiative, known as Rising Stars, aims to support the professional development of emerging talent in planning. Planners with less than ten years of experience are nominated by their line manager for their achievements and potential as local government planning officers.
Following the success of last year’s bursaries, Urban Intelligence will again sponsor a select group of young planners to attend the POS conference, offering a unique opportunity for networking, learning, and sharing best practice amongst innovative planners and businesses.
CEO and Founder of Urban Intelligence, Daniel Mohamed, emphasised the company’s commitment to fostering new talent in planning. “Through this sponsorship we want to support younger planners to harness their potential by accessing networks, training and inspiration. We want them to grow their knowledge, confidence and enjoyment of their work, to build sustainable places for the generations to come.”
Ten planning officers were selected by Urban Intelligence, from a pool of nominees, to gain invaluable exposure to the latest policy discussions and innovative solutions that can be applied to their local projects.
One successful Rising Star nominee, Niti Mittal, shared, "Just 9 months into my career as a graduate planner, an event like the POS Conference is an incredible and exciting opportunity to meet and learn from some of the most innovative councils and businesses across the country.
Experiences like this push me to imagine how my colleagues and I can embrace new methods and technologies to plan for Somerset's needs and shape better places for our communities.”
Council planning teams face continual resource challenges, to find and retain the best talent in planning and meet the growing targets and time pressures for Local Plans. Urban Intelligence have developed local plan software PlaceMaker - made by planners, for planners, to help them work smarter, simpler and more creatively.
To find out more take a look at the urban intelligence website or book a PlaceMaker demo to speak with the team.
If you are a public sector planner going to the POS conference on 11 July 2024, look out for the Urban Intelligence exhibition stand to meet the team in person.
